Yes the Lost Sectors drop rates are painfully low, but abandoning them for the Try Hards and the Grinders dismisses their efforts. It would also remove the opportunity to farm specific exotics. Keep the gates for the new season exotics behind the Lost Sectors, BUT use LS as the direct route to getting these exotics.

You're much better off doing legend sectors. The extra time just isn't worth it. Strongly recommend Perdition, Chamber of Starlight, and Aphelion's Rest if you're experienced and want to speed run.

I did it yesterday, but if it's bugged again this works. So if the next time legs legend lost sector is up and it doesn't drop legs do this: Fill engrams with primes/umbrals/ever verse. Have no open spots in inventory. Do legend lost sector, exotic goes to postmaster. Decrypt it when exotic legs is the master (1340) lost sector.

I just stumbled on this post because I was trying to farm my first lost sector this season to get the new titan chest. Granted my sample size was low but I ran bay somewhere between 15-20 times and didn’t get a single exotic drop. The drop rate last season felt closer to a 20-25% drop rate chance.
To my understanding the drop rate of exotics is supposed to be 25% for Legend and 30% for Master Lost Sectors. I've done most of them on Legend but I did do several hours of Master for a few of them and I'd say my rate feels like 33-40% overall. Bray.tech is saying that Nothing Manacles have a 31% chance to drop as the exotic item.
