We prefer to sat in the northern part of Rodanthe called Mirlo Beach because the beach is less crowded, it is more of a family feel and thee is a nice sound access in Mirlo. From Mirlo beach the Rodanthe pier is the perfect place to stop, grab a drink and walk on back.
