Infantry only is perfectly viable provided you make sure you keep enough mounts in your inventory to keep your speed up, too many will slow you down so about 1 per soldier does the trick. Sturgian heavy spear and axe infantry are apparently the best in the game but vlandian is apparently the worst. Horse archer only army is amazing.

They've got the largest shields of any heavy infantry, some of the strongest armor, and are brutal in close combat - plus they always seem to hit more often with their javelins than legionaries do.Essentially I have a deathstack of 120 mostly tier 4+ horse archers, many of which are Khan’s Guards or the lower ones on the same tree. Any battle with less than 200 opponents ends with at most 10 casualties for me, but when I get into a big battle (600v600) in an army they get decimated (usually 20-40 deaths + 20-40 casualties).Yes, that is my main army composition for the last year. Wildings have great javelins, 2 stacks. They really do a number on advancing shield walls, especially with the perk(s) to increase damage to shields. There are also perks to do more damage to horses.
