You need to get some metal wire. Barbed wire is used to put on the bottom or top of your fences/gates as a defence. Metal wire is used to make gates. So I can build a base without the flag and aslong as I interact with each fence/gate like adding and taking nails from it within that 45 day time frame and it wont despawn ... A lot of time you need to dismantle entire wall and put again fence kit in other "pixel" position. I asked about this problem lead dayz developer - Adam, but he said that they dont want to fix these collisions because players would build 394928437982 gates into loot rooms with best gear.

But yes, you’d either have to place it from the inside or stand outside and rotate the fence kit before placing it. Picks or axes can be repaired, so last longer before ruined.
